Dropping Down an Academic Tier to Gain Scholarships

Every year, there is significant “mis information” that circulates about the cost of a college education, especially when it comes to “scholarships”.  While there are all different types of scholarships, one of the most common is the scholarship given as a tuition discount in the hopes of swinging high academic students to come to certain schools. This is a great way for some strong academic students to better afford out-of-state tuition at a private university. (This happens at public universities as well, but tuition discounting there is typically well spelled out on the university websites and is not the topic of this blog. See our blog dated April. 2018 for public university tuition “scholarships.”

These commonly applied to private colleges and universities are some of the ones that give the highest amount of merit aid to make the overall price more affordable for strong academic students. Typically students winning these awards would be A/B students with several passed APs and top 10% standardized test scores.

If you’re willing to drop down an academic tier from where you can probably get in without merit aid, then check out these schools and go ahead and apply! Our favorites are in bold!
