Montana Finale to The College Sage Westward Adventure

The College Sage Westward Adventure wraps up in Montana with a tour of four college campuses! We’ve seen almost every college campus in America! How many colleges has your high school counselor actually been to? As states go on our tour, Montana ranks at the top of the list. Be sure to check out these amazing college opportunities and contact thecollegesage@gmail.com to learn more about so many opportunities in the western half of America.

University of Montana: The College Sage's quest to uncover amazing schools continues - this time in beautiful Missoula, Montana! Situated at the base of Mount Sentinel and not far from the Clark Fork River, the University of Montana inspires students to "think critically, live ethically, and explore creatively." The idyllic, carefully manicured "Oval" at the center of campus coupled with beautiful examples of classic western frontier architecture make UM one of the more attractive schools we've seen (despite the fact that it was cold and rainy when we visited). And even though it's one of the state's flagship institutions, it still boasts an impressive 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average class size of just thirty students. One can't talk about UM without also mentioning Grizzlies football! The team boasts the highest attendance in the entire FCS and lays claim to two national championships.

Montana State University: Simply put: Bozeman. Is. Buzzing. This beautiful, dynamic, and rapidly growing city that has become a prime destination for those fleeing larger cities is anchored by Montana State University, the largest institution of higher ed in the entire state. As one walks around town and strolls the pretty campus with numerous major construction projects going on at once, it's easy to see that this is a university that is very much on-the-move. It's a mouthful, sure, but you should know that MSU is the ONLY institution in the nation to be designated by the Carnegie Foundation as "very high research activity," "significant commitment to community engagement," AND "very high undergraduate profile." What does this mean? Undergrads who attend MSU have a chance to engage in hands-on learning that serves the community. Situated in the gorgeous Gallatin Valley, MSU has one of the most picturesque campuses in the country.

Montana Tech: The College Sage loves finding "hidden gems." And in this case, you could say that we've "struck gold"! Montana Technological University (aka Montana Tech) is a STEM-focused institution with an emphasis on training students for careers in mining and geology. Montana Tech is the only school in the nation with its own on-campus underground mine, and its graduates often go on to highly lucrative careers. In fact, Montana Tech is known for having one of the highest returns-on-investment in the country! When they aren't studying, Montana Tech students enjoy cheering on their athletic teams (the "Orediggers"), catching air at the on-campus mountain biking skills park, and exploring the historic city of Butte.

Carroll College: Say you'd like to go to an East Coast-style, historic-feeling Catholic college, but your heart longs for the Mountain West. If this sounds like you, then check out Carroll College in Helena, Montana! Founded in 1909, Carroll now ranks as the #1 regional college in the West, according to US News & World Report. It seeks to provide its 1,210 students with "Moments of Inspired Curiosity." And despite its modest size, Carroll offers a wide array of academic majors and programs in the liberal arts, life sciences, engineering, nursing, and theology. Interested in medical school? Carroll's pre-med students enjoy an 85% medical school acceptance rate compared to the national average of just 44%. Helena is a fantastic college town, too, with a charming downtown, fun restaurants and shopping, and easy access to the outdoors.
