College Sage had an uplifting tour of the SC Port Authority’s Wando Terminal - the view from the cranes is spectacular!
The Port Authority has created over 700 jobs and is actively hiring. There are great jobs for students right out of high school, or with a 2 or 4 year degree.
Interested in being a diesel mechanic? A young mechanic, just two years out of high school, is making over $90,000/year. Studying Supply Chain, Logistics or Economics? The Port Authority would be excited to meet you - check out their careers page at www.scspa.com
One of the best part about these port jobs is that they are right here in Charleston. If you don't want to be on the Mount Pleasant side of the Cooper River, there is the North Charleston Terminal, the Columbus Street Terminal, and the Leatherman Terminal which is scheduled to open in 2021 - the only new container terminal being built on the East or Gulf Coast.
Loading and unloading thousands of containers a day using state-of-the-art cranes and IT systems, the Wando Terminal is an active work environment that operates 24/7. Not to be outdone, each year the downtown terminals transport over 194,000 BMW’s that were built in the Upstate, using Ro/Ro (Roll on/Roll off) cargo ships.
